In the words of my Geo-Aunty it’s Friday, COVID chronicles, Day 200 and something!

Or as Rihanna once sang, “Cheers to the freaking the weekend!” But what is the weekend during a pandemic?

Afterall, we have been mostly indoors isolating. Trying to stay as healthy as possible, not only for our own well-being, but also for the well-being of all the medical and custodial staff who have been heavily impacted since the onslaught of the pandemic.

With that being said, I have entered the phase of the pandemic, where I am, and honestly, I have to, mix things up for my personal mental health.

So, while taking precautionary measures, I am currently blending at home activities with various outdoor adventures. This personal choice has been allowing me to re-establish boundaries between my place of work, my workout space, and my place of rest. I have begun taking back control of my days, my comings and goings, and shutting down as much as possible for the weekends.

While doing this it has come to my attention that many others are also interested in this “phase”! However, some have been out of the loop so long, there is no real sense of what’s available to do. While others are mentally frozen by the possibility of a verbal stoning from friends, relatives and even strangers.

Pandemic shaming has definitely graduated into a thing
*insert my famous side-eye here *

But never fear, because Geo is here!

Moving forth I’m going to share a bi-monthly short list of suggestions! A to do list of sorts, to help bring, or increase the sparkle in your eyes. Please note I am in no way advising you to do anything you are not comfortable doing, or that you feel may put your life, or the lives of others at risk. It is only my intention to share different ideas and some of the adventures I have embarked on as means of "travelling how I can" during this time while socially distancing.

The Big Screen!

Outdoor option:

If you have a bubble of friends or loved ones you have been socializing with, call them up and head over to your favorite movie theatre. For me this has been Alamo.

At Alamo and many other theatres, you can safely social distance and enjoy a movie via a private screening room for an aditional fee.

How to proceed:
Firstly, pay USD 150.00 to reserve our personal screening room, then choose from either some of your favorites, aka the classics, or any of the films now playing in theatres.

Secondly, you and your guests can purchase tickets for via a private ticketing page.

Last but not least, grab your MASK, hand sanitizer, and Entourage and go enjoy the evening!

*Food and drinks can be purchased online or at the theater.

Indoor option:

For some of us heading outdoors is still not an option. Afterall we are still in the midst of the pandemic, with many unknowns.

However, it’s been several months and we are all a little tired of binging Netflix until bedtime in fuzzy socks.

Picture

One way to shake things up, is by transforming what would typically be a solo Netflix binge to a multi-person “extremely extra” virtual watch party.

Step 1: Pick a theme!

Step 2: Call up the squad and invite them.
If you’re like me, and you’re the Martha S. of the group send
e-invites that correspond to the theme.

Step 3: Upon confirming attendance, pick your favorite streaming service
and have everyone download the respective extension.
Personally, I have been enjoying Netflix/Prime and more recently                  Sling.

Step 4: Select movie to match theme, but if you’re feeling spicy, pick
               something totally random.

Step 5-however many additional you require or desire:
Select attire, stock up/create/order your desired foods and beverages.
Within our group we have decided having a common theme for
food /a signature cocktail has helped us to feel a sense of normalcy.

While I’ve only done this with my close circle, if you are adventurous or looking for a way to meet new people, in a fun virtual space, be on the lookout for fun pop-ups like Globey’s Pajamas and Prosecco Movie Night!

Inhale and Exhale, but make it fresh air!

Picnic:

Whether you are hunkered down with company, or enjoying a limited friend bubble that you are comfortable with, a great option for this weekend is to pack a basket (or your favorite tote) and head outside for a picnic. Isolating solo? Then pack a book or magazine not your usual genre or style and head out nonetheless. Taking yourself on dates are amazing!
(Remind me to describe the how in another post.)

Picnics could be as simple as grabbing a blanket, picking up food from your favorite spot and finding a comfortable spot outside. To as extravagant as planning a menu, packing a basket and cooler, blankets and games, while repurposing throw pillows and picking up fresh flower to enhance the ambience!

I will confess that last weekend we picnicked in a very extravagant manner...and I loved it!

We got dressed up, chilled copious amounts of Brut, noshed on petite cakes and tuned in to virtually celebrate Veuve Clicquot’s Toast to the Polo Classic.

It was everything, and I am planning to do an indoor version as temperatures continue to drop!

Hiking:

Hiking is an incredible way to safely enjoy outdoors and incorporate further movement into our “new”, more sedentary routines. Being outdoors provides fresh air, which not only helps us to relax, but also contributes to our ability to better process stress, depression and even anxiety.

A common misconception is that you have to be in a wooded or mountainous region to hike. Truthfully, one can participate in a hike anywhere there is a change in elevation. This adaptation has contributed to the surge in interest surrounding urban hiking.

There are officially several types of trails that can     be utilized:
   ·Foot Trails.
   ·Bikeways.
   ·Boardwalks.
   ·Interpretive/Nature Trails.
   ·Multi-Use Trails.
   ·Hiking Without Trail

If you are interested in getting out this weekend, head over to the web page of the area you are interested in exploring, and select the trail most comfortable to you! Most counties/cities/states typically maintain a current list of surrounding trails, their conditions and their degree of difficulty.

Before heading outdoors, ensure that you have the appropriate footwear, lather on sunscreen and pack an adequate water supply!

Also, if you are new to hiking or have any questions please let me know and I’ll be happy to point you in the right direction!

No matter what you decide to do this weekend, please be safe and enjoy!

Cheers,
TG.
